HOW IT WORKS

After TennCare expanded coverage of lactation services in our state in 2023, many IBCLCs found they were still unable to provide care to Medicaid recipients in their communities. In the state of Tennessee, IBCLCs are not categorized as licensed providers- meaning MOST in community practice are unable to contract with Medicaid MCOs.

Feeding Futures 501c3 will bridge this gap by providing IBCLCs the chance to enroll in our group to both provide this essential service to families across our state and be reimbursed for their time.

What is Feeding Futures

Insurances Accepted

This program will only be available to cover patients enrolled with Tennessee BlueCare, United Healthcare Community Plan, Wellpoint, CoverKids, and TennCare Select. We hope to expand to private insurances one day but our focus is TennCare first.

Reimbursement for Providers

As we are still in the early stages, our goal is that upon launch, each visit will reimburse as a flat rate per visit payout. Once we have a better idea of the average, our goal is to reimburse at 100% of the average visit reimbursement rate. When the visit if complete, you'll submit the required documentation and we'll send you your contacted payment.

Additional patient cost

In compliance with TennCare laws, medicaid patients will pay $0 for the visit and must not incur additional fees for travel or cancellation. If you have a supply store under a different entity, patients can pay out of pocket for these supplies.

OUR Story

Our organization was birthed from the individuals in Milk+Honey Health private practice working tirelessly to bridge this gap by offering insurance covered lactation counseling to medicaid families. We were the first practice in the state to be in network with all 3 MCOS. Unfortunately trailblazing cost our small business over $20,000 in revenue while waiting months for payments from MCOS until we were able to work out the kinks in the program together. Our small practice now sees over 500 TennCare patients per year. We are deeply committed to bridging the gap between lactation professionals and TennCare patients.
